Why do countries change their names

  1. They do this because some names turn out to be evil. For example, Mexico really means "really mean muthas from the underworld".

    There's a movement in Oaxaca to get this changed.


  2. Some countries received a name when they were colonised.

    When those countries received their independence they then chose their own name.

    EG Rhodesia became Zimbabwe

  3. Sometimes it's because their names are in like gipiish and can't fit on the map and no one can spell them.

  6. Normally it's because the name they change away from was one bestowed on them by colonial rulers and once they've had independance for a while countries tend to choose their own.
