Why do credit card applications ask for the nearest relative?

just curious cause I don't want them getting any junk mail or having to be responsible for my debt if I die or something.

  1. So that if you renege on your debt...and you are still alive...they can get in touch with you - or send the Collectors after you.


  2. Thtas exactly why they ask you have answered your own question 10 points for you  

  3. They want to be able to collect on your debt. Some people move etc and a relative will usually know how to contact you.  The relative will be not responsible for your debt.
