Question:

Why do credit card holders make things so complicated when checking into hotels?

Almost every hotel will ask for a credit card upon check in to do a "pre-auth", which is holding the amount on your card incase you leave without checking out.

I get people who give me a card that is obviously not theirs, and then get angry when I say that the cardholder needs to sign, not them.

Then there are people who get angry when I ask for ID because their signaure is worn out

Then there are people who get angry if I don't ask for ID!!!

Come on people, we do these things to protect you!! Stop giving us grief for doing our job

  1. I know what you mean.  I don't work at a hotel, but I do deal with the same things.  I've found, really, you're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't.  They're angry if you ask, they're angry if you don't.

Some people are angry that you're taking a moment of their time to protect them-- but those SAME PEOPLE would be IRATE if you allowed someone else to use their credit card.

    You just cannot win-- seriously.

I have, written on the back of my credit card, "See I.D."  I was once asked for my I.D. going through the drive-thru at Wendy's, for $3.  I wasn't mad though-- like some people would be; I was happy that SOMEONE was looking out for me.  If someone steals my credit card, I don't want them buying anything, even if it is only $3.

I do get kind of peeved when people DON'T ask for my I.D.  Even when it's signed-- what difference does that make?  They never see if the receipt signature matches the signature on the card.  I really wish people would actually check more often.

You know what-- people probably would check more often if it weren't for those people you're talking about that get angry when you ask to see an I.D.
