  1. Cheap cruise lines do this because they don't have to clean the pools, just empty and refill them with water pumped from the ocean.  I believe some of the more expensive cruise companies use fresh water, but they charge significantly more - since it requires more equipment, chemicals, staff, etc.

    Good luck!

  2. because, on ships, fresh water is expensive and salt water is free.

  3. It's cheaper to use the salt water that is in the sea.  Cruise ships will raise and lower the water levels as required when they are in rough seas or in port.

  4. The ship empties the pools when approaching ports, they also lower or empty them in rough seas. It would be impractical to try to keep that much fresh water on board just for the pools. In addition, although they do filter it, the ocean water is drawn directly into the pools and continuously recycled back into the ocean, this makes it easier to insure that they pool waters is clean, bacteria free and safe. I just wish they'd heat it too!!!

  5. your on the ocean what else would you expect. fresh water is very expensive when you are there.  they drain the pool every day clean the pool then refill with the same water the ship sails through. If you hate sea water then take a shower or if you ask I'm sure they will change the water just for you. hahaha

  6. The salt water pools are much better for you than freshwater ones.   New salt water is constantly pumped into the pools replacing the old stuff.   Fresh water ones are drained once a week at most and have many gallons of acid and chlorine added to kill any bugs that might be growing in there.   A special room is needed for each pool for the storage and mixing of the chemicals.    The fresh water costs alot too.

  7. Desalination and Cleaning costs money and fresh sea water is free.

Some ships do have a fresh water pool.

  8. Well, there's plenty of salt water out in that ocean, and many people like it for health reasons, rather than clorinated tap water.
