  1. Plant cells are usually full of water and the water pushes out on the cell wall of the plants and provides support to the plant. The pressure of the water pushing out is called turgor pressure. When a plant wilts, its cells don't have enough water in them to maintain turgor pressure and cannot provide as much support. When the leaf dies, it dries out (dessication), losing nearly all of the water in the cells. Without water pushing out on the cells, they shrink and pull together, curling up.
