  1. he was the biggest little b***h.

  2. Because he was arrogant.

Eric Lindros is one of only 3 players in NHL history to have 4 or more seasons average 1.5 points/game or more (Lemieux and Gretzky are the others)

Only Orr, Bossy, Lemieux, and Gretzky have had a 7 year stretch of seasons as good or better than Eric's first 7 years in the NHL

People say his career wasn't long enough yet over 60% of the Hockey Hall of Fame had shorter careers than Lindros

Over 80% of the Hall of Fame has fewer points than Lindros

Over 90% of the Hall of Fame has a lower points/game average than Lindros (when he left the Flyers he had the 4th highest in history, and upon retirement was 14th)

He was the only centre in the Gretzky/Lemieux era to be named to more than one post-season all-star team (that wasn't named Lemieux or Gretzky).

However for all the good he did, he is seen as fragile, he is seen as a momma's boy, and he is seen as arrogant.

The other negative.  His post-lockout seasons in Toronto and Dallas were pathetic.  I know at least one member of the induction committee (inductees need 14 yes votes from 18 members) who has settled on a no position for this fact alone, yet several other committee members have said they'll vote for him.

    Negatives

    - chose to play for Jim Rutherford in the Compuware system instead of going to Sault Sainte Marie

    - chose to exercize his right and not sign with Quebec and made a stink about it (Lemieux tried to do the same thing and has said if he knew he could get away without signing, he never would have signed in Pittsburgh)

    - blamed everything on everybody else but himself (the Philadelphia doctors, the Canadian media, Scott Stevens, etc)

  3. because he was made out to be the next Gretzky. He was probably the most overrated player in the history of the sport.

  4. He was so highly touted, and fell so far so fast.

The Flyers gave up the world to get him, and the team that gave him up used those tools to bring home Lord Stanley. While the best Lindros could do was get trounced by the Wings in his only trip. It's not really his fault. They made him out to be invicible with all the tools, and he was just fragile, both in psyche and body.

  5. Well coming right out and stating you don' t want to play for an organization is a good way to start your career off with a sizable crowd that doesn't care for you.

  6. I don't hate him, although he did give my number 88 a bad name.

Bobby Clarke is the sole person to blame.  This guy single handedly ruined his career.  What a waste.

To me, Bobby Clarke is the biggest jack@ss in hockey.  He ruined the Flyers chances to win the Cup.  The Flyers now have a shot without him running the show.  The Wings have been great for years because they draft TALENT.  All Clarke looked for was size and "offensive upside".

Too many people questioned Lindros' dedication.  People should be questioning his doctors for letting him play right after concussions.  Its too bad his career was wasted by people he was supposed to trust.

  7. All of the above, arrogant, ignorent, spoiled, etc... but for me it was when he spit beer in some girls face at a bar, I believe it was in Toronto or Oshawa and I guess there was a settlement of some sort. What a PR.

Then sleep with your teamates wife ? like he couldn't find another women. the guy is a all around JERK!

  8. He didn't want to play for his junior team as well because they played too far from home.He blamed the coaches for wanting to kill him in the plane when he had the collapsed lung.He was supposed to be the next greatest thing. His parents bitched and whined about everything and most of all he was supposed to win a Cup and have a parade for me..I mean the city of Philly and he didn't.

Thanks King now I'm angry too!LOL

  9. He was alittle brat........He will be in the hall of fame for the hit that Scott Stevens gave him.....And that should be all

Did you say big, destructed body?

    I know and I countered with "Destructed".....LOL!!!!

He was a solid player that got caught up in the drama and let it run his career not that he had a bad one but no where near expectations.........HOF????? Probably a lot of lesser players have made it there. I guess it's the same as Crosby and such....you either Loved him or Hated him!!!

  10. It was in London Ontario he spit on the girl (maybe threw the beer I don't remember anymore).

  11. too arrogant

when you talk like he did and do not deliver more than that, it is bad

also, I don't think he was a team player, but selfish - so he was on his own --- he would have been a team player, who knows if his career would have been completed yet....

  12. He never really fulfilled the expectations that were placed on him. He also was very injury prone, no durability. People saw this as him being soft and/or fragile.

He was somewhat demanding beyond his worth as a player.

Oh yea. I had forgotten until JoeB reminded me about all the issues w/ his parents.

  13. I always thought it was because he was just so overrated. He was so big and strong, but just really didn't do anything with it, and he would not have had all those injuries if he just would keep his head up!

  14. You have to remember it was all about the hype. Lindros and his size and skills mostly hurt him in the public eye. Nobody wanted to see this overgrown adult at the time take anything away from such players as Gretzky. Also the fact that it was such a big deal when his rights were traded away from a Canadian team (Quebec) to an American team, fans didn't appreciate the "I don't want to play for them" mentallity. It is unfortunate that as big as he was, the harder he fell,to the point of being keyed on. His career being cut short is/was truly sad with his potential.

  15. Dewman

    - the Panthers team that was in the 96 finals - was built by Bobby Clarke

    - The Dallas Stars team that won the 99 Stanley Cup, had several Clarke draft picks on it

    - the current Flyers team................is chock full of Clarke draft picks and trades

He's been the THN Hockey Executive of the year 4x in the past 20 years, and runner up several times.  I think Clarke has done a great job.  In fact he did such a wonderful job in Philly that they fired him as GM, and then hired him to be the boss of the new GM!  That's right, the head hockey man in Philly is still Clarke.............just with a different title!

  16. Because he dictates where he wants to play when he isn't happy with a team. He could've been a Gretzky but he wasn't. The biggest dissappointment in Flyers history as far as player expectations go. We never got a Cup and we still haven't won a pro sports championship in 25 years. 4 teams no championships how wonderful.

  17. He had a large mouth and he was Good.

He put up big numbers on the legion of doom line and actually made the flyers a contendor for the early 90s, even taking them to the cup finals.

Big E negatives;  dissing his junior team, not going to quebec when drafted, holding out, holding out again, getting hurt alot, holding out.

i dont think he was hated that much, but he just continued to get hurt and people (for ignorant reasons) figured he was a bust.
