You know the 'ring ring' you might hear in the North America?

Why do you hear a different tone when dialing the UK, Russia, Japan, Europe etc...?

  1. I gunno. I got that weird Kyocera one, and then there's that annoying 'Europe' one. They're all equally bad. I'm too cheap to buy the fancy ones. lol. In the Islands it is.

  2. Because different companies manufacture their telephones.

  3. I think you may be confusing ring tones with ring back tones.

Ring tones are what you hear when your phone rings. Ring back tones are what you hear in the phone when you ring someone esle.

Anyway, they are frequently the same.

I guess it's just because the phone systems in different countries just developed separately for many years. It's only recently that they have been interconnected.

  4. The same reason people in some countries drive on left side of road instead of the right, or speak different languages.

People are different in different countries and thus, do things differently.  Most things can be done many different ways.
