I am watching the Olympics and I began to notice something: divers showering after their dive. It is just so insane. Aren't they not wet enough? I understand that they need to immerse on a hot tub, but why do they need to shower?

  1. They do it 2 help their muscles keep warm and get used 2 the air. The pool water is really warm and the air is between 62 and 70 degrees and the difference can cause muscle tightness.

  2. to warm their muscles. the water temp is about 80 and the air is about 68, so the difference can cramp up muscles. ok...i said it first...i love when people repeat me.

  3. They shower immediately after they come out of the pool because they have to keep their muscles warm.

The temperature of the pool is about 80 degrees and the temperature of the air is about 68-72 degrees. So if the divers do not go into the showers right after their turn, their muscles would tighten and cramp up because of the temperature difference.

Since the divers do more than one dive, they have to stay loosened and warmed up and avoid tightening and cramps.

  4. Every body should shower as soon as they get out of the pool to wash off the chemicals they use for water treatment.  Most swimmers do it but since they return to the dressing room as they finish an event and do not often re compete so soon we do not see it on TV

  5. because otherwise their muscles cramp up after they get out - temperature difference

  6. Funny you ask that, it was a question on Yahoo Sports.
