  1. You have gotten a lot of erroneous answers.

Some drugs when injected into arteries are at such high concentration when they reach the tissues fed by those arteries that the tissues can be seriously harmed. Accidental arterial injections are not rare and people can be seriously injured from the same.

  2. Two points are to be considered:

    1. arteries are deep seated and are found deep within the body whereas arteries are superficial in position and are easy to locate.

    2. Blood pressure within arteries are greater than that in the veins, so when artery is punctured then greater blood loss is suffered but when vein is punctured lesser or negligible amount of blood loss is suffered due to lower blood pressure than that in the arteries.

    3. Veins carry deoxygenated blood to the heart. It is of less metabolic value than the oxygenated blood carried within the veins.

                                                          Thank you.

  3. The main reason is that injecting arteries is more dangerous than injecting veins. As others have noted, they are under higher pressure, and as a result there is a greater liklihood of internal bleeding following the injection. Great care needs to be taken. Puncturing arteries can cause clots to form -- which could compromise the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the organs that the artery feeds, not to mention the fact that the clot could break off and travel to the lungs or brain, causing potentially life-threatening problems. Injecting into veins ensures that the medication is distributed throughout the body quickly, with a lower risk of complications.

  4. Yes, because veins are superficial, but that is not the only reason. We do arterial draws if we need to.

Blood loss isn't really an issue, while the needle is in the vein or artery no blood is lost and the loss is minimal when the needle is withdrawn as pressure is applied immediately. The area where this would be an issue is if you are talking IV versus arterial line and the catheter came out.

First off, venous blood goes back to the heart. It isn't that the blood is less valuable. Injections in the artery would send a concentrated dose to the extremity, where venous injections go back to the heart and are distributed systemically.

Second, it is a matter of time. An arterial puncture requires you to sit there and hold pressure on the site to keep it from bleeding. Venous punctures just require a pressure dressing and you are on your way.

Basically, there are  no benefits to arterial injections  but there are a lot more problems.

  5. cause artery takes away th blood but vein takes the blood to the heart:)

to be very frank I dnt know !!

  6. because arteries go directly to the heart, veins carry blood away from the heart. So by the time the substance in the injection gets back to the heart there will not be a large concentrated amount, which, if this was to happen, could damage the heart.

  7. Veins carries impure blood and arteries carry pure blood. If they will directly inject in the pure blood then it may affect our heart.

  8. Ohh thats simple....vains are on the surface of the body while artery is deeper...
