Why do dogs live seven years every one human year?

It is the nature of the beast and their genetic make up. Just like a butterfly lives for only a few weeks or so, dogs and cats live usually for 10-20 yrs depending on the breed, environment, ownership, etc.

That's a myth. Dogs simply age faster than we do. So do lots of other animals. Also, different breeds will live longer than others. Where a Chihuahua can live up to eighteen years, a Great Dane's average lifespan is only eight years.

everything has their own life span its like we dont live 200 years like turtles or 2 hours like a flea...dogs just happen to live between 8-19 years  witch is about 7 years for every year of our life

That is actually a false statement. A dogs life span is determined by many factors, one of the greatest being their size. The larger the dog the shorter their life span. The source that follows breaks it down very well.

its based on the average life span of dogs and humans. the average life span of humans is 70 and the average of dogs is 10. to get the seven year thing, you divide 70 by 10 to get 7. same for all the other animals.

It's not so wierd, but it's not so far off either. It has to do with the dog's life-span.

Think about the comparison to a baby. At 6 months, a baby is still very dependent on its mother, but a dog is like a five  year old. At about a year, a baby is still dependent, but a dog should be like a teenager... still needs control, but should know right from wrong at that point.

By the time a baby is five years old, he's starting to learn right from wrong, but a dog is an adult and set in its ways.

Dogs life spans run from about 10 to 19 years. Do the math.

Its just a stupid way of comparing their age to ours. There is little truth in it. A year is a year is a year.
