  1. Yes, there are other animals that do this.  Shrews can stay linked up for an hour or more.  Some Mollusks, like snails and slugs can stay attached for several hours.

The p***s of the male dog has a swollen, bulb-like part that locks, more or less, within the female so she cannot dis-attach until his sperm has been discharged into her.

  2. I assume by 'remain together' you mean physically connected in the act of mating, not just spending time with each other - in many species the male will remain with the female for the duration of her heat, mating with her as many times as possible. All members of the dog family, Canidae, become locked together in what is known as the copulatory tie during mating - this includes dogs, wolves, foxes, jackals, coyotes, etc. The base of the male's p***s, called the knot, swells inside the female and becomes lodged in the v****a. This prevents any other males from mating with her for a longer period, giving his sperm the best chance of reaching her eggs and, thus, him being the father of her offspring. The tie does not last hours - as you can imagine, it would be dangerous for smaller wild canids to be indisposed for so long. The tie usually lasts around 30 minutes.
