Why do dresses make one look thinner?

I think it because a lot of dresses cut in at the natural waistline that is sorta under your breast..so it accentuates your natural waist which is the smallest part of your waist.    So you appear to have a 'hour glass' figure.

It truly depends on the dress and how well it suits the person in it.  A good fit and make a person appear thiner or heavier.  It can also accentuate certain parts or deemphasis certain parts.

Dresses can make us look slimmer, especially a dress or skirt at or below the knees. It tends to draw the viewers eye over a broader area without focusing in on one specific place. Plus, a dress or skirt that isn't too short hides thighs which tend to "look" heavier than they may be.

It all depends on where the focus is placed, the cut and which areas the dress conceals.

Maybe because of the flow of the fabric and at times they tend to hang from the breast-line and do not accentuate the waist or belly.

I find them much cooler in the heat of summer and love a loose sundress that you can just throw on over a bra and panties or swimsuit.

But it makes my legs look grrrreat 'cause the frill at the bottom makes 'em look  not too skinny or fat, and then if you have a high belt, it makes 'em look nice and long....precious huh?
