Question:

Why do drinks taste different in bottles of different material?

I was wondering why drinks, specifically sodas, taste different when they're in different kind of bottles. I always have thought they taste better in glass bottles than in aluminum or plastic, but I don't know why they taste different. Does some sort of reaction take place? Do some types of material let more oxygen into the mixture, or something like that?

  1. glass is a more stable substance there will be no chemical reaction with a substance & it does not bleed or exchange any of its particles with what it contains, aluminum makes a chemical reaction, & plastic can bleed or leech chemicals into what it contains, infact recently it was reported that some of the chemicals in plastic can be dangerous: http://www.thegreenguide.com/doc/114/bpa...

the only exception to glass is crystal, it  has a high lead content.

  2. Yes sometimes there are reactions that can take place.  I have a hunch it also has something to do with how cold the beverage is.

It seems like soda in an aluminum is colder than soda in a plastic bottle.  The truth is it just feels colder on your mouth because of the difference in heat conduction of metal versus plastic.  The glass bottle would be somewhere in between.  Maybe you just prefer the perceived temp of the soda in a glass bottle.
