Why do drivers in Washington D.C. and suburbs stay at the speed limit?

I was driving around that area and noticed almost everyone stays at or just a LITTLE over the limit. is there heavy enforcement or what?

Perhaps the enforcement is better, or perhaps the roads are built so they can't take a higher speed.

I belive Washington dc is the law enforcement capital

as well

you have park police , DC police, DC Metro Police, capitol police and I'm not even counting the University police dept either

so yes I would say there is lot of enforcement

and any of those cop can write you a nice ticket :)

(there is also uniform secret service and even the US mint has their police dept too?

(I doubt the US mint police would give you speeding ticket

unless you where speeding though the mint! ;)

because its the law, your not suppose to drive over the speed limit, and yes they probably have a lot of law enforcement

come in my car and see what speed i do, most of the time i do double the speed limit, also go on i95 sometimes you see people doing over 100

speeding tickets are expensive there! on speeders,a tv show, they said fines are $1,000 for speeding in DC!

I have one word for you RADAR.

Keep in mind California has a greater volume but the traffic courts are jammed there also.

Yes around the DC area especially in the Northern Virginia area there is very heavy law enforcement .  A lot of the counties around that area put speed traps just outside D.C.  to bust the speeders coming off the beltway.

     And don't think abut using radar detector in Virginia.  They are illegal.  It's a $250 fine and the cop can seize your radar detector on the spot.

Not everyone drives crazy or fast. Maybe they work in the government and speeding tickets are frowned upon.

hmmm...I've never noticed that.

Maybe around the circle maybe where the roads whined and it can be a bit confusing but other then that I didnt notice
