Why do drivers insist?

Why do people that drive huge trucks and huge svu's insist on stopping right on my tail at a red light or in traffic? I don't think it's necessarry and I know they frown upon that in drivers ed. In fact I was taught that if you can't see the back 2 tires when stopped behind someone, you are too close for comfort.

Even for people in regular cars, they like to stop right on peoples tails too. I don't think it's necessarry.

Why do people insist on doing this?

  1. think about this for a second. is this really something that you will be able to control?  enough to stress over? if THEY hit you then it is their fault not yours just fall out of the car and flop around like a fish out of water and make them sweat a little.

  2. yes you should be able to see the plate number of the car/vehicle ahead of you,if you don't its Too close. Truckers do it to intimidate people, suv's doit cuz they think they stand higher in the food chain cuz they got a bigger vehicle

haha..i've pissed all suv's owners...still I stand firmly by what i said..suv' owners think they're better than the rest of us..and are poor vehicle CHOICE makers..given the price of gas these day..ban suv's..who needs them on the road  anyway..they only clog-up the fast lane and polute extra oxygen...c'mon some more thumbs down

  3. They do this for the same reason they clog up the fast lane, talk on the phone and drive slower than the speed limit, cut off two lanes of traffic so they don't miss an exit, tailgate you in the slow lane, etc etc...

People just don't see beyond themselves most of the time.

  4. They don't know any better than that.

  5. It seems to me that it becomes largely a driving habit, rather than a reasoned conscious behavior.

Drivers appear to do many things for their own benefit rather than for any utility benefits.

In short they are just brain-dead.

  6. First of all, many large trucks and SUVs are not right on your bumper, even when the look like they are. A truck can be the came distance from you as a small car, but will appear in your mirror to be closer.

The reason they teach you the back tire rule when learning to drive is so you are sure to stop with plenty of room. People learning to drive do not have a good sense of the exact location of the front of the car. That only comes with experience!!

There is really nothing you can do about it, except allow a little more space between you and the car ahead. As long as they do not come in contact with your car, they have done nothing to harm you! It may scare you, but that is not against the law.

If they are following too close while moving, that is illegal. If they are just close to you at a light, it is not!

Unless you live in a no fault state, if someone hits you when you are stopped, they have to pay fo all damages, and your insurance is not affected at all!!

  7. Do what i did..brake check them...remember its always the persons fault behind you for not keeping a safe distance. The chick was being an azzwipe talking on her cell phone not paying attention so i made her have a bad day and i got new car from the deal =)

  8. I miss my lifted k5 blazer, i would actually overhang people's trunks at red lights....(put my bumper an inch from their back window...) and all they could see in the review mirror was my 33's

  9. For some the people that drive these big trucks and suvs seem to think they own the road. I hate it when I start to take off from a red light and they are still right on my tail. It like they think they have to gun it from red light to red light.

  10. they are idiots i always leave about 1/2-1 car distance so if some one is coming up behind me fast i can move up a little maybe avoiding an accident

  11. Because many people are impatient, belligerent, and aggressive. These three traits are the cause of most wrecks. Your best bet is to watch out for them and don't be one of them.
