  1. I've read a few ecology papers. none of them mentioned plastic bottles, so I don't understand where you get "big stink" from. Some plastic, like the plastic shopping bags, cause trouble when dumped into the ocean. Fish and seabirds get stuck in waste plastic. This wouldn't be a big problem with a soda bottle. Oil on the planet is found deep in the earth's crust. It rarely comes to the surface naturally. Plastic is made from oil, so it is a waste to throw it away when it could be recycled or burnt for energy.

  2. Ecologists provide information to policy makers.

Now if you asked why counties or cities raise a "big stink" about it - that would be different. Cities have to find a place to put all that garbage. They have to tax you to get rid of it,too. It is getting harder to find people that want to live next to giant stinking landfills.

If you do, please contact your city or county government and volunteer your neighborhood. In fact, since you approve of the millions of tons of bottles, why don't you make a petition and get your community to sign it and we can send our excess garbage (contributed by people like you) to your area! Cool.
