It depends what your talking about,

for some people its cause they like the style and hair etc.

if you mean the self harm and depression side of emo then well....people don't become emo cause they're depressed and self harm.

Not all emos self harm or are depressed, Thats just steryotyping... they just like the style.

Just the same as mods were mods

and teddy boys were teddyboys

Everybody wants to belong, but no one wants to conform. So they group together according to music, fashion, location etc. You tend to find there will be one or two icons in each era who will start off a new trend, which eventually fades out as the next generation takes over.

My friend is a emo,and she told me that she is one.Because she  have lots of family problems.And that she feels alone.I think that's why emo people do it. Because they feel alone,and maybe have family situations.
