Why do emo people cut theirselves?

well I've been cutting myself for a long time and just recently am trying to stop. It helped me relieve my pain and i found it to be an art rather then taking a brush and painting i took a razor and created art. I guess its wierd i realized now it sort of stupid to do. everyone who cuts themselves has a different reason for doing it. some people do it for attention, some like the pain, some even want to leave scars to look and remind themselves of a painful memory its very complicated.

I don't know why so many emo questions randomly get dumped in this section, but anyway.  Not all emo's are cutters and not all cutters are emo.  That is a stereo type : )

Because they're too emotional. They get blinded with their "problems" that the only solution they see is to give pain to themselves so they get numbed to the realities. Or worse, the only solution is to end their lives.

*sigh* How sad. Those poor unfortunate souls. And the parents can't even do anything about it. *sigh*

there angry, there are alot people in the military that do it, they see war, and not to found of it, i think they should toughen up and face what they fear the most

i think thats actually a stereotype...i have lots of emo friends n i cant think  of one that cuts themselves...but hey im not an emo, so ull have to ask them

It gives emotional pain, literal pain, so it's easier to deal with because therefore it's rational. Trying to understand that an emotion makes you feel so hurt etc, is a hard concept when you're depressed. Therefore cutting, gives them something to feel pain about.

Also, they can be attention seeking, which is normally the case. You don't cut and tell if you're not attention seeking. You keep it hidden.

not all emo people cut them self, and some just like to dress emo.

I've read that people cut themselves because the pain they experience when cutting releases endorphins and relieves them of the emotional pain they're going through.  I think it also had something to do with control -- the same way people who have eating disorders -- that's the only thing in their lives they control.

I don't think it's only emo people cut themselves.  This is a serious psychological problem that requires serious help!

If you know someone who is doing this or are consider doing this yourself, please try to get the person (or yourself) help.

Well, when I was in high school I knew emo people who cut themselves, but I also knew non-emo people who cut themselves. I knew emo people who didn't cut themselves as well.

When I was 13, I cut myself because of the emotional abuse my stepdad put me through. I felt as though the physical pain will subside and overcome the emotional pain I was facing. I wasn't emo, and I didn't do it for attention because nobody was aware I was doing it until it became a problem and I told my mom whom took me to a psychiatrist and helped me overcome it. So don't assume things that aren't true, and don't stereotype people.

they dont, its just what the stereotypes say they do...when actually they just get depressed a lot, but otherwise their really happy people
