I have had so much trouble with Virgin Media, in my dealings with them

There engineer told me " there policy is to slow down the speed so everyone has a fair time " so if like me you pay for 20mb you will not get anything like ( I know 20mb is a joke ) and there is no way you can get that speed at this time. but i was gobsmacked that i am paying top money for poor service.

  1. With their so called 'unlimited' downloads, many people are experiencing slower internet speeds, so many people upgraded to the 20mb service - the only problem is this is very costly for virgin media and so they result in slowing the speeds down, but yes, virgin media relaly do tend to rip you off for what you pay for.

  2. Bandwidth throttling helps limit network congestion and server crashes, whereas for ISP's, bandwidth throttling can be used to limit users' speeds across certain applications (such as BitTorrent), or limit upload speeds.

Virgin Media has quietly rolled out bandwidth throttling nationwide, after successful technical trials in the North West, which the ISP says means a group of heavy users will sacrifice high speeds for the benefit of the majority.

Speeds on the cable network will be limited between 4pm and midnight for traffic which Virgin considers "potentially abnormal". Virgin says the top five per cent heaviest downloaders among its three million customers will be affected - about 150,000 broadband users across the country.

If your not intensively using the service, this should not affect your overall experience, however, if you fall within the top 5% as indicated, then you may experience slower connection speeds during the peak hours.
