Why do english people usually say to scots "we pay for you"?

Money from English taxpayers is given to the Scottish government to pay for their public services, transport etc. because they couldn't afford it from Scottish taxes alone.

I think it's because of the Tax's.

England gets pretty much screwed on a few things with tax's, like funding for hospitals and certain drugs, benifits and grants, but since scotland can control how it spends it's share of the Tax money, it dosnt have the same restrictions, even wales can do the same. council tax aswell.

Scotland's tax and oil revenues pay more that 35% of the UK budget only London pays more and only slightly more. the Barnett formula see to it england gets the lions share.

England stole the north sea oil from Scotland. we get 7% of the total UK budget back to live on. wales 3%. Norther Ireland 30%, and England gets the rest. so who pays for who mate.  Scotland has problems not as many as you english and we can fix them but not while england continues to harm us and rule us and cause our problems we can rule our selves and better than you can

so what exactly is your problem if you want more per person in england then make your Westminster give it to you stop being sheeple, stand up and fight stop hiding in your homes and complaining. get out and make a change, the lie about England supports Scotland is propagated by the UK govt to keep you thinking about other things than what your Westminster is doing to you.

we Scots are no racist we love everyone we respect everyone of every race. we just dislike anyone who dislikes us that's not racism, that is life.  the English wiped out 27 members of my family (mostly women and kids) for wearing tartan and being Scot, we have reason to be angry, i have reason to be angry. i am my families chieftain i have no forgotten our history.

I've never heard any of them say that.  If they did, they would get their answer!  Scots pay their taxes too so they pay for themselves.

The Barnett formula gives the Welsh, Scots and the Northern Irish a larger per-capita slice of the national tax cake than England. This was set up in the days when the UK was united and not being balkenised by Labour to help the Scottish and Welsh hill farmers and the Northern Irish with the troubles(so called). Now of course the Scots, Welsh and Irish run their own affairs and England is dictated to by the Brown junta (all Scots) from Westminster. Is it any wonder that England now has turned against this formula which enabled the Welsh to have free prescriptions and the Scots to have free transport.

I lived in Scotland for a year in Lumphinanns near to Cowdenbeath.

They are a bunch of racists esp. about English people. It is laughable as i never hear a word said about Scottish people in England . They just don't exist.

So drunks, drug addicts, welfare abusers galore.

I worked for the social services and i seen it all. What a bunch of losers.

Have you ever heard the saying  "A Lie Told Often Enough Becomes The Truth" ? - well this is definitely the case with regards to how a lot people in England think about the Scots. The Scottish people have been told for years that they cannot support themselves - which is another lie. Scotland could easily be Independent - just like their closest neighbours Ireland, Iceland, and Norway. But unfortunately England enjoys all the billions that Scotland brings to the UK economy. They don't intend on letting it go without a struggle. :-)

The Barnett Formula does not favour Scotland - it actually favours the city of London - they get most of the money - closely followed by Northern Ireland. But you will never hear them complain about that. Oh no. lol

It's misleading. The amount of oil revenues from Scottish offshore oil that goes in2 the exchequer since the'70's has always more than paid the way for Scotland. These funds and the taxes collected etc are then distributed across the UK.The Barnet formula takes in2 account the demographic differences between England and Scotland in terms of funding for various services. But if you want us 2 leave the union..just say to ur (Tory) representative at the next gen election and we'll say..'g'bye and g'luck'!
