Why do english police use vauxhal vectras as police cars

i was aware they used other cars just wanted to know why they used vectras

I can't believe the answers suggesting it's 'cos they're fast & reliable - they are certainly neither. Local police authorities have a budget for cars, but they can buy what they like.

Here (Dyfed Powys), all panda cars are Ford Focus diesels, everything else are Volvo T5s - marked or unmarked. They occasionaly buy others - all unmarked - ranging from Honda Accord & CRV to Subaru WRX, but certainly no Vauxhalls around here

They don't all use them, it depends on the force buying policy (and the preferences of the fleet manager). Vauxhall have aggressively priced fleet prices, but not all go for it. Around here the traffic cars are mostly Volvos,with a sprinkling of BMWs and a solitary unmarked Skoda VRS, which the boys love.  The pandas etc. are all Fords.

Like Bardic says i think it depends on where you are. They all use astra tdi's around here as the normal police cars, but they have merc's, jag's, bmws and volvos as traffic cars. The unmarked ones I have seen are r-type accords and civics, imprezas, st24's and more bmws and volvos!

probably because good cost for the government,and fast,reliable etc etc.

used to have those snazzy BMW's which were cool to see,dont see them any more,probably due to their price

Vauxhall no longer make the Omega, the car that was the preferred choice of the Police for many years. The Vectra is a fast and powerful alternative and probably costs less than BMWs.

They use them because they are large cars and because they al have diesel engines they get good gas mileage...and because they're horribly ugly...lol

The Vectra is a popular one but then so is the

Volvo  

Vauxhall Omega

Peugeot 406/407.

BMW

Mercedes-Benz

etc.
