  1. One word:

    NIXON

  2. A lot of conservatives are also disappointed right now because of president Bush. It doesn't matter if you're a Republican or a Democrat, it's pretty obvious that Bush has screwed up one too many times. I think he handled 9/11 well, I agreed with the war in Afghanistan and that was a success ... but, the war in Iraq has turned into a mess. There was no reason to invade Iraq, as bad as Saddam was, he was no threat to our country. Over 4000 American soldiers are dead from that war, that’s over 4000 families lives turned upside down. Bush has done nothing about the illegal immigration problem, he's just ignored it all together. Anyone who still approves of Bush is like Britney Spears fans who just can't get accept the fact that their idol messed up.

Because of that, the Republican brand was certainly damaged. I'm generally a conservative person, but I'm a realist and it's obvious that the party has been damaged because of the president's s***w ups.

  3. First let us know who is saying it. Was Barry Bonnell speaking out of turn again?

  4. Well, Bush really disappointed the conservative wing of the Party, myself included.  He went on a spending binge, and started a war and completely mismanaged it.  He inflated the deficit beyond comprehension.  So, the public became disgusted with Bush and his policies, thus damaging the Republican brand.

  5. George W. Bush administration damaged it when they pushed for an invasion of Iraq based on shoddy intelligence.  The WMD rationale turned out to be false, and Al Qaeda is on the rebound.  Bush's term in office is almost over, and Osama bin Laden is still at large.  Throw in poor response time to domestic crises, and it's little wonder Republicans lost control of both houses of Congress in 2006.  They will be lucky to hold onto the presidency.  If anyone except McCain was their nominee, I'd say it's impossible.
