Why do fast food restaurants have dollar menus?

Like, say at Burger King, it's $5.99 to get a large whopper meal, when you can get two junior whoppers, two fries, and a drink for $5.00. Why is that?

Its like the c**p they sell at check-out lines. People who might not normally stop by McDonalds or Burger King will drop in because they think 'hey, its only a buck.' They draw in more people with cheaper menus. There are always still people who want the more expensive items.

Plus, in this economy, they need something to get people to keep eating out.

It provides people with less money equal opportunity to get heart disease and also become morbidly obese.

The point in the Dollar menu is to sell sell sell!

At the moment in my country, in McDonald's a medium drink is only 1euro even though, a small drink is 1euro 60...

my point is, when an item doesn't sell well on it's own, i mean without a meal, the put it on the dollar menu so people will buy it..

then when they take the item off the menu, people have gotten so used to buying that extra cheeseburger for a dollar that they just keep buying it!

it's a smart selling strategy.

it is also a good idea for people who don't have much money, they can eat off the dollar menu!

And even though you would buy the two junior whoppers, etc for the 5 dollars, most people will just get the meal anyway and the corporations know this!

It gets people in the door so they buy more expensive stuff later. In the food industry, that costs pennies to make, so a dollar really isn't that bad of a deal.

well first of all the economy is very low and gas is very high so they try to come up with idea's to help your budget.i hope that's all he info you need

It's all about choice and want the Customer's want.  The Dollar Menu is there because those are the most popular and affordable items.

its to have people buy things with out having to worry that much about how much they spend, most people dont worry about it and will sometimes pay more ordering more off the dollar menu. some people would rather order 5-6 things off the dollar menu then a combo meal because they don't want to spend the money. but by the time they are finished ordering they dont realize it.

To attract customers who may not otherwise come in, and to get people buying other stuff to add one more thing on to their order because, after all, it's only a buck!  Quite clever marketing.
