Question:

Why do female figure skaters even bother to wear skirts?

They're so short that you spend almost the entire program watching their panties anyway! I'm not complaining at all, especially with Ashley Wagner, but anyone walking in public with an outfit like that would probably be cited for indecent exposure. Didn't figure skating create new rules limiting how high skirts could go?

  1. are you g*y?

  2. Yeah and why don't the men ever skate in little itsy bitsy Yfronts?? I'd definitely watch Dancing On Ice if that was the rule!!

  3. i skate and i can tell u its more comfortable and it doesnt get in the way and it doesnt feel there so u can concentrate on wht ur trying to do

  4. Uh,

    1) Longer skirts tend to get in the way, unless you're doing dance

    2) No skirt would be trashy

3)There is no rule about skirt lengths

4)You are preverted to just be watching the girls bums instead of the technicality of the program

  5. Cause its more comfortable pls.

  6. hahaha, I thought about that too...

but i guess it separates skaters from girls of do gymnastics...

Kimmie's was pretty long, and I agree to some of the other answers too...

it depends on the skater and/or the choreographer... tradition maybe? idk

  7. Skating dresses actually just evolved that way.  If you see old pictures of women skating, they're usually wearing long, heavy  dresses, which just became the thing to wear for skating.  As skating grew in popularity and into a sport, the skirts got shorter....with the help of a little lady named Sonja Henie.  The long skirts do get in the way when jumping and quickly moving on the ice.  The costumes added to the pagentry of the sport.

There are rules that govern what skaters wear in competition.  I believe in regular competition, it is stated women must have skirts, unless they opt to wear pants/body suits, which is a rule that has changed within the past few years, but you don't see female skaters going that route very often.  Usually ice dancers wear longer skirts than freestyle or pairs skaters (not always though).  I don't think just a leotard-type costume would be allowed in competition.....and if you work hard enough to get to competition, you sure don't want your outfit to blow it all for you!  Without the skirt, skaters would start to look more like Vegas show girls....not that there's anything wrong with Vegas, but there is a level of class that is supposed to be maintained in skating.

Personally, I'd rather see a skirt than none.  Some skaters tend to get the wedgie going and I don't enjoy seeing that, as well as it is distracting for the skater.  The skirts are usually no shorter than what would cover a skater's rump.....thank God for those of us who have to wear dresses for testing and competition and don't really want to draw attention!  I don't think they'll get any shorter though....sorry, boys.

As a kid, I did wear my skating dresses out in public if mom had to run errands after she picked me up from practice.  I didn't get arrested, but people did look at me like I was some sort of circus freak....especially in the summer when I'm wearing layers of tights with it!

  8. Long skating skirts get in the way of skating, and there are no rules limiting the length of a skirt. The "panties" are not their actual panties anyways they are an piece of fabric attached to the skirt and dress to create modesty. Also I've been out in public in a skating dress before, and never had any problems being cited for indecent exposure, there are many people who wear shorter skirts without liners underneath and they aren't cited for indecent exposure.

  9. longer skirts get in the way, and i know their really short i dont like wearing them either. i personally like when female skaters wear guy pants. but the the short skirts you can move around in easily

  10. What the? Do you have a crush on Ashley Wagner or something?

  11. acually skaters where tights so you're not acually looking at their panties. It adds so much to the beauty of figure skating. Notice how they twirl out when you spin?

  12. it looks cute????
