Question:

Why do feminists assume if you're against feminism, you must not be educated?

I have read quite a bit of feminist literature, even down to the lowly S.C.U.M. Manifesto. I have two years at USC and two years at ORU.

I have weighed the causes and effects of feminism and find it to be a very selfish and self serving mind set.

Why would a feminist feel so threatened by a another woman educating herself and coming to a different conclusion... isn't that what feminism is supost to stand for?? Women having free choice....

  1. Are some women against feminism because they have become "educated" but don't want to be responsible or accountable? because you want to hide from the world in the cozy little cocoon of domesticity?

So then if something goes wrong, or if you don't reach their full potential, you can get away with saying "well, gee, I'm ONLY a girl"  and leave it at that?

ORU, I assume means Oral Roberts University?  I wouldn't be so quick to brag about going there...not with all the current scandals happening.

Oh, and FTR, I as a feminist do not feel the least bit threatened by anyone else's choices. I know what I want to do, and I do it anyway.  It's when the other persons "opinions" start to impact my life in some way or their attempts to turn their "opinions" into policy or the law of the land (ex: ending reproductive freedom) then I will fight back!

  2. Because of their policy of intolerance, its like when you disagree with someone from P.E.T.A their fanatical about their beliefs and ready to beat the cr*p out of anyone who does not agree or proves their arguments wrong. No point in arguing with extremists!

  3. I think I'm confused to exactly what feminism is.  There is another question on here somewhere that asked that question and 9 answers and they all say that it is men and women should have an equal place in society, more or less.  Yet, you are saying that women's lib and feminism are 2 different things.

I am totally for women having rights to vote and work and get paid for doing the same work as men.  I don't think that women are better than men and I don't think they are the same as men.  Men and women are equals but different.  If that is what you mean, that men and women have different roles in society, but they are equally important, than I agree with you.

  4. There is a big difference between being educated, and having common sense. I'm sure there are some people who are educated who are against feminism... .

  5. Because the existence of a non-femminist like you knowing so much and with enough credentials to talk about, disproves there idea that femminism gave them the opportunity to go to the uni. They think you are ungrateful to a group that gave you that opportunity, when in fact, the reality is, your intelligence, hardwork, and knowledge got you to USC and ORU.

  6. I don't assume they are all ill-educated. I try not to assume anything about people. You, however, have assumed a lot about feminists, which means about me. Why are you threatened by the fact I would quite like social equality and equal treatment, please? Because there is social inequality still - if you manage to deny that whilst reading some of the posts on here... well, that's actually quite impressive. There are also more pressingly much oppression of women in other countries.

Mostly, my issue is with the fact many arguments against feminists are very poorly thought out, and often based on incorrect assumptions.

  7. You appear to be having a very hard time articulating your objections to feminism. All you seem to provide are vituperative rants with little substance behind them, which is why I suspect the feminists here think you merely have a personal chip on your shoulder, not a coherent counter-argument.

Your huffy labeling of my outline of macroeconomic realities earlier as "fantasy," when in fact it's obvious you were the one engaging in wishful thinking, then becoming hysterical and accusatory when other posters pointed out the error, leads us to believe that you lack a formal education, or at least the will to apply it.

Feel free to prove us wrong. That's the point of GWS.

  8. We all think that a person who disagrees with us is stupid or ignorant, that's just the way we all protect our own fragile egos I suppose. And I do mean that most feminists, anti-feminists and misogynists have this problem. However, if you make statements that are rude or unrealistic, people have every right to call you out.

  9. Maybe it's your definition of feminism that's the problem - in the last sentence of your question you make an excellent point.  Yes, feminism is supposed to stand for women being allowed to live and think and feel however they want.  That's feminism.  Are you for or opposed to that?  It sounds like you're for it, but claiming to not be a feminist.  Maybe that's the disconnect.  Sorry kiddo, but from what I can tell, you're a FEMINIST.

  10. If wanting to have the freedom to make your own choices in life and live a life free of sexism or discrimination due to your gender is having a "self-serving mindset"...then you have some pretty skewed views on things.

Furthermore, don't you realize that without feminism, you probably wouldn't have even been able to go and get and education that would give you adequate information to make your own choices?

Personally, I don't feel threatened by your "beliefs".  I just think they are stupid, misinformed, and illogical.  No woman who wants to make her own choices in life and be free of sexism and discrimination would choose to oppose feminism, since that's what feminism is all about.

  11. Feminists are mal-educated and very unperceptive. They can't even take on board the fact that their cult is s*x-based and s*x-biased, like racism is race-based and race-biased.

If they had normal thought processes they would not be feminists. They would be equalists.

  12. Hey, you unblocked me. I feel so free.

The assumption is not that you're uneducated in general, but that you're not completely educated about feminism. That's what usually leads to extreme opposition to anything.

  13. just because it was assumed that YOU must not be educated doesn't mean that "feminists assume if you're against feminism, you must not be educated"

one personal experience does not justify such a broadly sweeping generalization.

  14. Those feminists are acting very high and mighty. But it seems that you've had a bad impression of liberal feminism (which I don't like either) especially in colleges where female professors try to make seem men like scoundrels. That is not what feminism is about, that is misandry in disguise.

There are various forms of feminism out there: pro-life feminism, socialist feminism, anarcho feminism, libertarian feminism, and much others. While these may disagree on a variety of subjects there basic common belief is that women are equal as men. That is what feminism is about and anyone else trying to make into something different is destroying what feminism is truly about. I do not fit into the stereotypical mold of a feminist: I'm against abortion, I'm not a democrat, I'm against affirmative action, and I like guns. You just had a run-in with women who were deluded and gender studies courses at universities actually create a bad image of feminism.

  15. Feminists ASSUME a lot of things. They assume:

    -All men are rapists

-Men who disagree with feminism are sexist oppressors

-A housewife is a slave to her husband

-A quiet woman is a STUPID woman

-Being the leader in a romantic relationship is the same as being a dictator

As you can see... feminists are the ones who are not very "educated".... on LIFE and human nature that is....
