Question:

Why do files keep reappearing after I've deleted them?

I've been having some trouble trying to permanently delete a particular music folder from my computer only to have it reappear everytime I open my music file.

Initially, I had burned some CD's to this folder, then some time later, I transferred all of the music from that folder to one on my external HD. When I delete the original folder, it reappears everytime I open my music file.

What can I do to fix this? (Vista user)

Serious answers only please.

  1. This "Folder" apparently is directly related to a program so it's self replicating an can't be deleted.

You probably need to change a setting in options of the burning program to have it stop reappearing.

    That's my best guess.

  2. Was this a folder you created, or one that existed by default when you installed Vista?  If the latter, likely Vista is recreating it.

On the other hand, if you created the folder, it's likely you've configured it as a path to *something* in a program - likely your CD burning program - and that program is re-creating the folder.

  3. You know, I had the exact same problem when I installed my Spyware Sweeper program on my external hard drive.  After uninstalling it, it still showed up as being in my system.  When I would try to delete it, it would just keep coming back.  I have a strong feeling it has to do with the external hard drive coming into play.  Did you copy and paste the files or did you move them?  I have a feeling that you moved them, and that is why the issue is occurring.  As far as getting the folder to stop coming back, I think you would have to take it off of the external drive and wipe the drive clean, as in reformat it.

  4. I have had this same problem, I am suggesting go to Start, then Search. Enter this files name, delete that file, and any other files associated with this particular file. Only a guess though. It didn't work for me, but my PC is like th most out-dated PC ever, so it might work for yours. Good Luck. ^_^
