  1. I'm not sure about the current situation, but I used to work in a Blockbuster about 10 years ago and the store had to pay over $100 for the early DVD copies that would go for rental. The DVDs weren't yet available for purchase yet, unless you were willing to pay that much -- and some people would buy them from us at that price to get them earlier.


  2. With video tapes it was the quality of the base material that was used - it was much stronger to last through months of potential heavy handed use. The quality of th erecording was also better.

    With DVDs I imagine similar considerations apply.

  3. Well it should be better quality tape, a heavier recording and the dealer pays for that with the record licence.
