Why do girls like jerks?

Ok, i was wondering why all of you ladies out there like to date jerks. I'm a junior in high school and I've noticed over the years that girls seem to like to date really obnoxious and rude guys (mostly athletes). However, guys who would do anything to make you happy get overlooked. I'm a nice guy and im not bad looking either (im not bragging, just saying that i have above average looks). I dont curse, drink, or chew tobacco and im really polite. Yet, girls seem to ignore guys like this. So ladies, if you dont mind me asking, why do you like to date jerks?

ok  a lot  of the girls these days like jerk. It the fact they think they can change the jerks and it keeps the girls in-line. prime example fishing u can only, tease the fish for so long before it goes after the bait

the guy acts normall at first, but when he gets the girl he acts like she is his proporty,and she belongs to him. and he does it for his friends

I honestly don't know how to ask your question. That's awesome, you sound like a great guy and your time will come. But high schoolers, we are strange ppl. I guess we go for the jerks cuz they seem exciting. Because they're so big and popular and stuff, they seem like a challenge, and we feel like were special if they show any interest in us. The nice quiet guys girls sometimes just take for granted because were too busy thinking about what other ppl think. Were all just human, we make ALOT of mistakes.. just hang in there dude. A great girl will come eventually.. nothing in life is easy... and while it seems like life is easy for the so called "cool kids" this may be their time now but high school is only a tiny chunk of someones life and if they're the big ones now, they won't be for long.

Girls tend to like confident guys who like to be relaxed and have fun. Swearing and being a d**k falls under the category of being "cool" these days too.

Maybe you're just focusing on the girls who seem obnoxious to other girls? Perhaps there's a nice polite girl like you who likes you but is to shy to say it? I say look around instead of focusing on the preppy girls who date the jocks you know?

sometimes those jerks are just very confident, they "go for it." They know what we want to hear....but later on down the line, we are screwed because we figure out that they are jerks as well.

Also, some of those jerks remind us of those men in our lives that we are most familiar with...jerk dads, jerk grandpas, jerk uncles. We just don't see it until we figure out the jerk part.

Athletes also give off pheromones (sp?) which makes us want them, without us knowing. Go work out more, and you'll notice women more attracted to you.

i asked basically the same question the best answer i got was girl feel more special when a jerk treats them nice but when i nice guys treats them nice thats just them bein them

i married one of you nice guys dont worry it takes a little longer but soon we relize nice is wat we need to stay happy

I don't know...I guess they like to be treated like c**p. I am married now but I had to act like a jerk to get my wife's attention. I know it sounds funny but I call it developing a F*%K you attitude. See, the thing is that deep down a woman wants a nice guy but they are attracted to guys who are cocky and funny. In order to be cocky and funny you have to have a F*%K you attitude....you have to have the ability to say to yourself "If this girl doesn't like me the SO WHAT!" Don't be afraid to be charismatic...sometimes you will crash and burn and sometimes not, but if your a NICE guy you have no game...trust me, I know from experience and had to learn all this the hard way.

You know all that stuff about women being more mature than men? It's a bunch of feminist propaganda. The reason girls like jerks is because they are young and immature. Don't worry, women will get older and start to see the value in a man like you. Let them have their hedonistic fun now, guys like you run in short supply later in life.

You have a lot of good answers here and some really terrible ones. I think Devyn & Sammy have good points. The girls want a challenge and feel special when a jerk treats them well. And maybe those girls aren't the only ones looking in the wrong places. You could be overlooking a great girl just like you who's polite, nice, and good looking, but just a little shy. Confidence is key, but you don't have to be obnoxious.

I'm a junior in highschool too, and I see this happen to a certain few of my friends. They don't actually want a jerk boyfriend, but the boys make them think that it will be different when they date. She believes he won't treat her badly because she's not like his other girlfriends and that he loves her too much to do that. Then when he does do something sometimes they will just overlook it because they have grown attached to him. Some girls even think they can change the guy.

Please don't listen to cc89! If all the nice guys think that way then I'll have no hope for my future! hah Maybe this is all caused by the media or some sort of psychological insecurity, who knows, but trust me all women are NOT like that. I have plenty of amazing and beautiful friends who would love a nice guy like you! The other girls may never wake up and realize what they are missing, but if they do get out of that phase they could be very happy with a man like yourself. You sound genuine, so please don't give up because you deserve a really special lady and I want you to find her.

I think that same thought sometimes, so it's nice to see someone else out there feels the same way. I live in a small town so sometimes I forget how many people there really are in the world. Out of the billions of people out there I can guarantee at least one of them will appreciate you. And one is all you really need.
