Why do glasses and waterbottles sweat?

why does water collect on the outside of cold drinks? no super-technical-hard-to-understand answers, please. i'm just curious...

  1. It's dew.  Water from the air collects on cool surfaces.  As long as the bottle or glass is colder than the dew point, water will condense on it.


  2. Its because of condensation. This only happens when the water is cold. The colder the water is, the cooler the area around it is. The water vapor in the air cools down, and slows down. It condenses on the glass.

  3. It's not sweat because it doesn't come from the container.

    The warmer, moist, atmospheric air outside the cold can or glass gives up its moisture which condenses to water droplets on the exterior due to the transfer of heat from the warm moisture into the can or glass.

    (Condensation of water vapour (moisture) requires the loss of heat energy. This goes into the can or glass and consequently into the contents...they warm up slowly).
