Why do governments cover up alien sightings and that alien do exist?

They have on record of sane intelligent astronauts(some retired), military personnel(some retired), and regular people catching on tape or admitting that aliens do exist and that our government is lying

Ever considered the possibility that there is nothing to cover up?  The people who say astronauts saw aliens on the Moon are also, by and large, the same people who say we didn't go to the Moon anyway!  Try applying Occam's Razor to your arguments.

That sounds plausible, doesn't it? I just made it up. It's no more real than your additional details about people from Area 51 or fighter pilots.

There are no alien visits. The governments are not lying. You just want to believe so badly, that you'll believe made up nonsense like I just came up with instead of the truth. It's far too difficult for aliens to come to Earth from anywhere. The distance between stars is just too vast, faster than light travel is impossible, and we're a single grain of sand on the beach. There's no reason for anyone to come visit us. Get over it.

Governments do no such thing for the simple reason that there are no aliens.  The US government searched for years under project Blue Book (and a few other code names)  They found nothing and eventually gave up.  

   If a certain ex-astronaut is making claims I would suggest you consider the following.   Being an ex-astronaut does not pay the bills.  Being an ex-astronaut who "believes" in aliens and a government conspiracy, immediately makes you newsworthy.  You are invited onto television shows.  Alien enthusiast groups will pay you to speak.  If you choose to write a book, you have a great chance of being published and a large potential audience.  

    Is every government on the planet lying?  Certainly other nations would be visited if there were alien visitors.  

May I suggest that forming opinions about aliens based on your experience of watching "Star Wars" and "X-files" may not be the best procedure.

It's called suppression of free knowledge/and free will. It's called suppression of the fantastic. It's called, the world WOULD have to change in regards/in light of ETs presence. That is why they lie to you. To keep you from revolutionizing against the oppressor for change.

There is absolutely no proof at all of alien existence.   Without proof, there is nothing to even cover up.  It is more thrilling and mysterious to say there is a cover-up than to say there is no proof.

The question alludes to, but does not mention, the so-called Disclosure Project, in which a washed-up physician named Steven Greer rented out the National Press Club and invited a whole bunch of former government employees to talk about an alleged coverup.  A few of them said they were part of the government coverup, but their stories quickly fell apart when they were investigated.  The rest were simply "something inappropriate happened where I worked," that they then spun or assumed had something to with an alien coverup.  Greer now sells seminars where he teaches you to contact aliens telepathically.

In short -- there's no credible evidence that aliens are visiting us and that the government is keeping it a secret.  But there's lots of evidence that people are trying to get attention and money by saying so.

The so-called "Star Child" skull is not an alien skull.  It's a hydrocephalic human child skull.  It resembles what some people speculate space aliens might look like.

People throw away their credibility all the time to get attention.  The question is not whether they "would lie," but whether they have anything to back up their claims.  They never do.

we couldn't really say what started it....

some believe aliens engineered us as slaves, and that they still to do this day, 'use us'... they believe the govt. has an agreement with the aliens, to hide from public eye that they exist (could lead to a revolt)

there are a possible hundred diffrent reasons as to why they would cover it up, but i don't really feel like saying them all.... this is just one example, i'm sure others will chime in with their own...

however, i'm sure the lie persists to this day, just because the govt. doesn't want to have to eat it's own words.... hardly anybody trusts the govt. as it is... just imagine if everyone found out tomorrow that govts. have been hiding this fact for hundreds even thousands of years.... i'll tell you this for sure, people would trust the us govt. even less then they already do (as impossible as that sounds)

so astronauts put their jobs on the line to report ufo activity, when it WASN'T really there? give ma  ******* break, these astronauts KNOW what space debris looks like, they KNOW what planes look like, they KNOW what satalites look like, they KNOW what earthly transportation looks like....

they DIDN'T think they saw something that wasn't there... they saw something and they d**n well knew it wasn't from earth..

and i suppose when f4's were scrambled and chased a ufo for over 20 mins over the us, they were chasing a weather balloon? (even tho the the thing was clocked at over a 1,000 mph at one point.... when it was cruising our jets could barely keep up, then it shot off and nearly disappeared out of a pilots sight in less then a second.... while he's flying at several hundred mph.... what earthly craft could possibly fly that fast IN EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE.... even the shuttles/satalites/space stations would struggle to keep pace with this particular UFO....

you should really look into **** BEFORE you start spewing off at the mouth...there's more solid evidence for aliens then there is of us going to the moon.... we have what? a few videos and pictures of us on the moon? how many pictures, videos and MULTIPLE (thousands of people at a time, try the pheonix lights for example) eyewitness accounts do we have for ufos?

the trusting, ignorant mentallity of people in general sometimes scares me... 'oh look it's the govt. they're here to protect me and keep me safe, they WOULDN'T lie to me....'

yeah, right.

remember, according to the govt. area 51 was a myth, until 2004 that is... when they finally admitted IT HAD BEEN THERE ALL ALONG.  the same mentality of people that called beleivers crazy, is sitting right here, right now giving me thumbs down for not being so naive.

so please, tell me the diffrence.... why you think they'd actively lie and deny the existence of a mere building, even tho nearly everyone already KNEW it was there.... but they wouldn't hide knowledge of aliens even tho alot of people know they're here....

If they have found aliens, only the TOP government officials would know about it, not astronauts and military personal...

and our government keeps a lot of things secret, most likely (at least hopefully) to keep us safe, and there really isn't much you can do about it

The recent astronaut that came forward also believes a teenager from Vancouver named Adam Dreamhealer healed his cancer from a distance with psychic powers, when he was never even diagnosed with cancer in the first place!  Just because he's an astronaut (or other 'government official') doesn't mean he's not loony as h**l.

Eyewitness testimony is not good evidence, it's only a suggestion that you should investigate to see if good evidence exists.  And so far no good evidence has been uncovered for the existence of aliens.  The simplest and most likely explanation is that they do not exist (at least, not on this planet) and the government are not covering up anything.  A real, physical artifact with unambiguous origins is the only thing that can be acceptable as evidence.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and some guy saying 'I saw it' is not extraordinary evidence.  You only accept it because you WANT to believe it so you accept lame evidence.
