  1. do they? i always found that chestnuts and blacks got the hottest... but i suppose they have an awful lot of dark pigment to their skin and the iron greys have dark fur so i supopose thats why.

  2. I have never heard that. But intresting question

  3. I believe you have your information backwards.  Grey colored horses do NOT get hotter than other colors.  In fact, black or other dark horses soak up the heat much more, just as any black object soaks up heat more than a light colored object.  If you go outside and feel a light colored horse and a dark colored horse you will find this to be true.  Not only will they be warmer to touch, but they will be sweating more.

This is one of the reason that the main color of Arabs in grey - its a color that has done well in the heat.  And since grey horses normally have dark skin under their light colored hair, they do not sunburn anymore than the average horse.

    Hope that helps.

  4. I've got a grey who is almost white now (he's 13) and a solid white horse and a mostly white horse who don't seem to follow suit here.

I have a brown mule, a black TWH, and 2 roans and one bay and white spotted.  My dark colored horses seem to sweat more than my light colored horses.

It might not have anything to do with color.  It may just be each individual horse.

  5. really?I always heard that chestnut mares are usually the hottest mares...mabey different for males??

  6. I think black horses get hotter. Grays usually stay the coolest becuase the sun reflects off their "white" coat

  7. Maybe it is just that the grays are not as fit or inshape as the others

  8. That is not true. Dark horses, especially black horses, get hotter in the sun.

  9. I have never heard that and dont think it is true =[  becaue thier coat isnt dark and neither is thier skin so heat shouldnt be a problem

  10. i dont know if that is real but if you dont wanthim to get burned put sunscreen on him

  11. I have owned just about every colour of horse there is out there...from my experience it is the blacks that sweat the most and the flies and bugs go to them more as well...

  12. I don't think that is necessarily true, but they do have more black coloring than a lot of horses, especially darker greys. But black horses in general are usually the hottest. :)

EDIT: Some horses just sweat more than others (if that's what you mean), it is actually good because it means the horse is working hard and regulating their body temperature.

  13. no
