Why do guitar necks have the dots on the frets?

I was just wondering why some necks on guitars have the dots on them? I'm just beginning to learn acoustic and my Valencia guitar doesn't have them on the frets. Please help!! Thankyou :]

  1. they cover up the bolts that hold the guitar together yours has them you just cant see them. thats how the expensive guitars are


  2. I'm pretty sure its just to quickly help you locate where to put your fingers. No special importance other than that.

  3. They are there to help you visually know where you are at. For, example you can look a the 5th dot and know those notes are

    A, D, G, C, E, A (from low E to high E) on the fly versus counting up the alphabet. Also sometimes they look cool.

  4. To help identify the major chords easier and quicker

  5. For fingering....the chords!  

  6. they help you so you know where to put your fingers =]
