Why do guys wear boxers under their bathing suit?

Almost every boy in my grade does, and I was wondering why they do that?

They probably wear board shorts which don't have netting like a normal bathing suit.

because everyone else is doing it, and because its in style to show an inch of boxers under shorts, and if not, their butt cracks would be showing

Because i guess the way the swim trunks fit, it's really uncomfortable for guys to wear all alone. So they wear boxers under it because it's much more comfortable for them.
