Why do gymnastic trainers....?

Why do they sometimes put their hand out underneath the gymnast when he/she is on the high bar / uneven bars?

  1. Its a safety issue. They move into that position when the gymnast is doing an ariel trick. Although these athletes are highly trained accidents do happen and they are there to support them if they fall.


  2. So they can catch the gymnast if they fall out of their routine.
