  1. Why do we call them Indians when they're not from India?

  2. The term Hispanic refers to Spain (originally Latin Hyspania), therefore it does not include Brazil of Portuguese descent. To put together the group of often badly treated and over-colonised by the States, they refer to themselves as Latino from Latino-America as again the USA has monopolised the term America.

Indians refer to India as it was first thought that what the Europeans found was the East of India not realising that there was a full continent in between to reach India going West. Then the natives were called Indians.

  3. Hispanic and Latino are not necessarily the same thing.  The term Hispanic was popularized by the U.S. Census Bureau back in the 70's and refers to anybody that is from a Spanish speaking background regardless of Race or National Origin.  Latino on the other hand, technically refers to people that are specifically of Latin American descent.  It's called Latin America because it was conquered and colonized by the Spanish and the Portuguese which are both part of the European group known as Latins. This group includes Italians, Spaniards, Portuguese and French and are called Latins because they all share a common Roman heritage and speak Latin based Languages.  Latin Americans can be White, Black, Native American or mixed (most are mixed).  Hispanics can also be of any race but since the term applies only to Spanish speakers, Brazilians are technically not Hispanic, they are however, Latino.

  4. Some hispanics[omiting the indigenous and african ones] do have latin blood - (italian, spanish, french, portuguese, etc.) so i think it's a justifiable term to identify us.

  5. Because they don't know what they're talking about. Most "Latinos" don't even have any Spanish blood.

  6. Im assuming by hispanic you mean mexican right? Hispanic essientially means "spanish speaking" and composes of many different ethnicities..but I digress

Indians are people native to North America..Hispanics are "spanish speaking people" who can either be white, black, or amerindian...They have nothing to do with Native Americans from the U.S. either..

  7. They call themselves Latino because they come from a region in the Americas called Latin America. The longer version of Latino is Latin American. The region was named so due to the Latin origin of the languages spoken in that region. Are they indians? No, they are not from India. If you meant Native American or Amerindian, then some of them are and so of them aren't. Latino does not define race but ethnicity. Therefore, Latinos can be any race - white, black, etc.

  8. um.

spanish is a romance language, so its derived from latin

so they do speak a version of latin

and a latino/latino is anyone who retains spanish or south american (apart from brazillian) culture regardless of race

so latino can range from indigenous indians to 3rd-generation european settlers

Edit: well i agree with you on that one

you dont even get to keep your african names

  9. first off they are not indians. a similar question was asked so here is the link

i hope this gives you more clarity

  10. Most "Latinos" in the U.S. are Mestizos (Native American/White) from Mexico and Central America.

DNA studies have proved that most Mexicans carry Y-DNA from a European or Semitic male ancestor. They are at most 17 to 60% Caucasian which explains why some of them are so freaking hairy like Arabs and Southern Europeans.

I suppose that a good number is of pure indigenous stock. Oh and yes they are related to "Native Americans" . Mexico is an American country morons.

    Edit.

And if they are just "Indians" what do you care ?

Why do you Blacks call yourselves African-Americans when you have never set foot in Africa?

  11. No they can of any race, especially mixed and they speak Spanish, except for the Brazilians.
