Why do hotel bathroom electric wall socket has the words "FOR SHAVERS ONLY"?

Can't it be used for other appliances?

I would assume that it does not carry enough power to handle a hair dryer.  Using anything that takes too much power will trip a circuit breaker.  Resetting the breaker means more work for them and a bad experience for you with no power.

Because they do not have enough current carrying capacity to handle an item like a hair dryer.  Most of the time these wall sockets provide 115 VAC via a small transformer from 220 VAC.  If you plug in a hairdryer the circuit will be overloaded and a fuse or a breaker will be tripped.  So it cannot be used for high current appliances.  I'll tell you a little secret that the hotel doesn't want you to know.  Don't tell them I told you that you can plug in your camera battery charger or similar low power items, but don't push it.

Bagels is absolutely correct. It is because many of those sockets are not supplied with the proper amperage to support larger appliances. Use of larger appliances in these sockets would cause circuit breakers to trip, or if they don't trip it would cause a fire. Neither situation would make your stay any more comfortable.
