  1. SEXUAL REPRODUCTION evolved because ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION was less effective in enhancing GENETIC DIVERSITY, and genetic diversity promoted ADAPTIVE RADIATION, as individuals with the optimal genes for a new HABITAT were able to colonize more rapidly.  Sexual reproduction is almost universal in modern plants and animals, while PARTHENOGENESIS or asexual reproduction persists primarily in prokaryotic, unicellular organisms.

GAMETES, which are HAPLOID (in contrast to the DIPLOIDY of SOMATIC CELL genomes), are produced by MEIOSIS involving the CROSSOVER of maternal and paternal DNA, resulting in GENETIC RECOMBINATION.  In humans, the gametes (sperm and ova) have 23 chromosomes, while somatic cells have 46 chromosomes.  The genetic recombination of meiosis, when combined with sexual reproduction, provides the genetic diversity necessary for successful adaptive radiation.

  2. The "purpose" of s*x is of course to have children - from the point of view of evolution, a species that has an urge to have s*x will quickly outnumber a species that doesn't. In many large-brained animals such as humans, dolphins and chimpanzees, s*x also fulfills a social role.

As to why we bother with s*x at all instead of just reproducing asexually is a more interesting one. The answer is twofold: firstly, it increases the rate where new genetic traits can be spread throughout a population, and secondly, it gives another way in which those traits can be selected for.

The most commonly stated selection method in evolutionary theory - "survival of the fittest" - is a very crude filter. It only filters away those individuals that for some reason is less likely to survive until they reproduce. If an individual has to attract a mate instead, this puts a new selection mechanism into play. And the more and better selection mechanisms there are, the faster beneficial traits get adopted into the population.

  3. To reproduce and for pleasure!

And in case you didn't know, humans are animals too!

  4. Humans have s*x with animals because they are just as curious as you.

I don't see how you can type a semi-valid statement yet not know the answer.

  5. I haven't had s*x but I can answer this question =)

The purpose of sexual intercourse is for reproduction and/or self pleasure. Basically the woman gets pregnant and has a baby.

    How old are you anyway?

  6. To have babies...and until you're old enough to want / care for a baby, you should use protection!!

  7. It is the 's*x hormones' (& other related hormones) produced in the human (& animal) body that leads them to have s*x
