Why do human beings act so stupidly?

recently i was going through an newspaper article where person jumped into cage full of lions shouting that god will save me, within minutes he was tore apart by lions.when science and theory of evolution has provided clear proof that there is no god why do we still kill each other in name of muslim god or a christain god or any other god. wouldn't it be better if we realised that there is no god and instead of killing each other in name of religion try to help each other and in the process create heaven on earth for each one of us

if u want to create heaven on earth you have to believein  heaven and god.if u say no heaven then no god.religions are many even though inner thought is only one.gods are many with many names but all are one.we do not understand the real meanings of creators actions.the person who jumped in to cage didnot thought that he was stupid other wise that would not have happend.probably thosewho think much about such stupids may be the real ones..god has nothing to do with rightfull/wrongfull kiling.all living beings kill all other living beings.man is also not exceptional.if he wont kill physically he will torture and kill with his actions and behavior.

Well, then maybe God did save him !!

Maybe what fate had  in-store for him, was far worse than being eaten alive by lions.

So he was indeed saved, from that.

And maybe at that same moment, the lions were also praying to be saved from hunger...so both prayers were answered, in one swift motion.

People killing in the name of God its beacause in that comunity 1 section (its a big network all over world) blackmailing their own comunity at first and their main motive is to eliminate or keep in terror the other comunity perticulerly and society in general. They are providing large sum to people who join them in some cases they even supply drugs to make sure their given jobs are performed.All these happening  under the nose of that whole comunity and they cant say or do against it because all that section doing it for protecting the comunity and they get automatically sympathy of that comunity.......and this is unfortunate to that comunity first society in general.

People kill in the name of a god because they know that killing is wrong and need some way of not being punished for killing someone. Religon isnt stupid it is there to explain something tha we cant understand that is all. I am pegan and I dont think anyone is stupid for jumping in a cage of lions because they think there god will save them. That is true religon. The only way that someone is stupid is if they think that someone elses religion is wrong and theres is the only one that is right. And as long as we cant explain everythig then there is proof that a god exsistece. We still dont understand Dark Matter for instence. Shoot... I was hoping to just answer the title of your question, but now I'm going to answer a question about people throwing themselves to lions and Muslims and Christians and science and all sorts of things.  The title alone would have been easier.

First, as some have said, you can't prove God does not exist, nor can you effectively prove God does exist (well, not until the last day or whatever - you can't *effectively* prove that God does exist).  This is generally recognized in philosophy and science, with the possible exception of Richard Dawkins.

OK, so let's deal with the guy and the lions.  I didn't read the article, so I'm just going by what you've told us here.  And yes, it doesn't seem that God "saved" him, at least not in the way we'd expect.  I'm inclined to say that it sounds like the man was testing God, which is specifically frowned upon in the Bible, and likely in the holy books of other faiths.  Not to mention the fact that, if a miracle occurred every time someone asked for one, the whole concept of physical laws and an ordered structure to the universe would go out the window.

On to people killing each other in the name of one god or another.  Really, people kill each other for any idea that they feel is powerful.  Look at Stalinist Russia, Communist China, or even n**i Germany.  In each case, there were massive killings, yet none of them had anything to do with religion.  (For anyone who points out that n**i Germany appears to be Christians vs Jews, historically speaking the Christian church in Germany at that time was very weak and diluted, and Jews were hunted as a nation, not as a religion.)  Unfortunately, one of the most powerful ideas known to humans is religion, and thus it is used by all sorts of unscrupulous people for ends that go against everything the faith actually stands for.  The key thing to remember about any faith or religion is that it is made up of people, and in any group of people there will be those who try to exert power, and there will be those who follow where ever they are led.  (This is sometimes shortened to the motto "People suck".)

Another small point is that different people have different ideas of what "heaven on earth" would look like.  Unfortunately, sometimes this seems to involve removing other people from the earth.  This, again, is not restricted to religion.  There is a long history of people using science to "prove" that another group is inferior, and thus should be eliminated or dealt with.

I think we should not say that human beings act so stupidly. Human birth is most precious and important. We know about many noble persons, who sacrificed their lives for upliftment of entire human being. There are evils in our creation but many people, just one like you dislikes evils and that is the reason for which we need to be good. Even it was declared in the Bhagawat Geeta that lord takes human form in order to protect good from evil. It means that all are potentially divine but only few among us are conscious about it. Infinity or supreme power becomes finite through human birth or in other words Lord incarnates or brings Himself to the level of human being in order to teach all the doctrine of true love and thereby paves the way to peace and harmony. In fact, lord is untouched by the random transitions in his creation, who remains just one silent witness of His creation, untouched by cause and effect. Lord has to limit himself down to the human level, with the soul purpose of helping those devotees or followers of His teaching through His association to them and help crossing the river of life and death.

Definition of heaven varies from man to man and it may be a very difficult task to convert impermanent earth in to permanent heaven (eternity?).

You can't say that science has provided "clear proof" there is no God. At most it provides explanations for the arguments some people use for God. Evoloution is a prime example. It is not the opposite of religion, nor does it disprove any religion, but just provides an explanation for human existence that Design Arguments normally exploit.

As for why do human beings act so stupidly in the name of religion: I don't think it's just religion that does it, it's any idea. Is the blessed matyr any different from the raving patriot who commits suicide for his "country"? Or the man who kills another person in the name of his definition of "freedom"? Is the belief in religion any different, in motivating stupid (or brilliant) humans action, than the belief that torture is always wrong?

Humans are stupid, I don't think you can blame it only on one idea.
