That is why did our parents always think they had more "goodness" than we did and why do we ourselves, as parents, think we have more "goodness" than our children?

  1. I think the fact that we're cutting off our oxygen sources at an exponential rate has something to do with it. We need oxygen in our brains to be able to think, act comprehend.. all in all, be. By building and cutting we're making ourselves inceasingly stupid, so we are not able to tell the difference between good and back, or "right" and "wrong". We're also not able to see the difference any of our actions or thoughts make on ourselves or other people. In the end, I think we'll all be mentally challenged at some point, and there will be no such thing as "morals" or "values"

  2. I think the word is "change" instead of deteriorate. I think that human values 2000 years ago werent the standard they are today. The colloseum, gladiators, games of death for entertainment?

  3. Values changing is not necessarily a bad thing, but it can be when we start to value things that are probably harmful and probably contribute to social problems.

Freedom, being the double edged sword that it is, extends the opportunity to get rid of old prejudices, yet at the same time allows tolerance of other more reprehensible things.

To claim that there are no questionable values is plain stupid; to claim that each generation becomes more decadent than the previous is questionable, but has a grain of truth to it.

On the whole we don't bother assessing our values at the same rate we obsess over other  broad concepts like 'freedom'.

  4. more knowledge+more information= higher expectation

  5. Values don't deteriorate, they change.  The older generations always bemoan the younger ones because of their behaviors, this is the nature of counterculture!  There is always conflict between generations because the standards imposed by one generation are usually rejected by the one which follows.

Even within Christian societies, you see changes in how a good "Christian" is supposed to behave.  You may be surprised just how drastic some of these changes were.
