Why do humans have an ego?

i mean we got stupid people on a pretty planet, who feel that they have done something special when really most people have done nothing but contribute to the damage that their culture does to the planet. what? do people feel special because they are who they are? thats not special thats a chance; one out of the billions of sperms who could have made it to the egg.

what is the reason behind this since i cant seem to find any logic?

Why shouldn't we feel special? We exist. Isn't that funny? It's quite a thing to exist. Every person in life has friends, family, thoughts, dreams, all that c**p.

When we die, all that goes away in a flash.

Physically, nothing matters. Physically, we're nothing but a composition of atoms that have existed since the big bang. But still, we exist. It is our relationship to things beyond the physical that determines our signifigance.

The chance of life developing on one planet is so slim that the chance of life developing on another are so astronomical, it's possible that we are alone in the universe.

What does that say about mankind? We exist. That's better than the alternative isn't it? But then again...how would we know the difference if we didn't exist? We wouldn't be.

YOU EXIST! I EXIST! Big deal? Of course it is! We may be one life form out of billions on one planet, but so what? Why does that matter? The important thing is YOUR existence. Every living thing exists and has all the components that make up existence to it. Isn't that fascinating?

It's from evolution.

If people believed that they were a worthless drain on the planet, the logical conclusion would be to remove themselves by suicide.  These people will not leave their genes for the next generation.

If people believe that they are valuable, then they seek to leave their mark by having kids.
