Question:

Why do humans still live above ground level?

There are several advantages, such as quietness, security and permanence in building below ground. Why is it still so rare? Why don't Tornado alley farmers have lovely underground homes?

Isn't pride the real reason, today?

  1. Realisticly, the "living" conditions are not possible, you would be taking the risk of a cave-in and also the temperature and moisture would be unbearable, not to mention the fact that it would cost a fortune.

  2. There are some advantages but there are disadvantages as well.  It is generally darker.  Basements are rarely the most desirable room in the house and this is for a good reason.

  3. No one wants to do that. and why would you? Being underground is just stupid. Less sun light, complex entrances, no windows, i mean, your just wasting your money really.

  4. Hmm...

    You must be Muslim.

Do you have more than one wife as well?

  5. No, pride is not the reason. This has been tried and it is found that humans have certain evolved preferences on places they like living. Your question displays a total ignorance of evolutionary forces that shape human behavior.

  6. My husband and I are very much into researching alternative construction methods.

We have also looked at building an underground home, or at least a heavly bermed home.

Here's one very important reason why they are not practicle in many areas of the U.S.....radon.

Radon gas is very much captured by underground homes.  It would be very dangerous in areas with a lot of granite rock to build an underground.

Also, of course, it is almost impossible to get mortgage companies, or banks to lend on the construction of, or the purchase of unconventional homes.
