  8. i think becoz we are not satisfied with what we have and trust me we can never be able to satisfiy ourselves..................................

  9. The question should really be "Why would humans NOT want to go into space?"

As a race we are generally curious about things that we don't understand. No matter what the cost we were always going to try and explore our little corner of the universe.

  10. Someday this planet will cease to exist and we better have a place to go .

  16. Curiosity:  Some people, especially astronomers, do possess curiosity.  Some non-astronomers share this feeling.  Most people do not.  If they did, NASA would be well funded.  It isn't.  This is becoming less important as the nature of the solar system becomes known.  Its deadly out there and there is no place to colonize.

National pride.  We started our obsession with space with the space race.  Before then interest in space was limited to science fiction fans who were looked at with distaste by the majority of Americans.  It was considered juvenile, only a step above comic books.  The Russians  shocked us out of our complacency with Sputnik.  At some level we still believe that our space accomplishments impress other nations.  Perhaps.

Economic.  Space travel involves huge sums of money.  Aerospace companies and thousands of sub contractors make lots of money by building the equipment necessary.  Tens of thousands of workers, engineers and scientists are provided employment and good wages.  Congressmen and senators who support the program are rewarded with contributions from the companies who profit.

Military.   An American, Robert Goddard, developed the first modern rockets.  His work was universally ignored by the rest of the American scientific establishment.  The Germans were more receptive.  They used his designs, scaled up considerably, to build their V-2 missile to rain destruction on Britain.  That caught the eye of the US military.  After the war we captured almost all the V2 rockets and a considerable number of the German rocket scientists and shipped them to the US.  The became almost instant citizens. Besides liking the idea of blowing up things at a distance, the military has always known the value of high ground.  Orbit is the ultimate high ground.  All manner of military applications for space were developed and deployed.  Today we are the pre-eminent military power, largely due to our control of the battle space by use of military assets in space.  Amazingly space itself has never been militarized.  There are no weapons floating around up there.  The Russians and the Americans decided on a treaty to prevent that.  Probably a good idea since they would have been vulnerable.  Sub-based missiles are almost impossible to track if your submarines are quiet enough.
