Why do hummingbirds peck at my screen door?

They are pecking holes in my screen door. Don't understand what they are looking for?

  1. they're pecking at the bugs inside your door.

    however this answer only works if your door is wooden but its the most probable answer

    you can stop them from pecking holes in your screen door but putting a hummingbird feeder (brightly colored) by your front door. remember you can't just use a regular bird feeder b/c hummingbirds like sugar water and there are special feeders that are made JUST for hummingbirds. the hummingbirds will pick the sugar water over the bugs any day...

    wouldn't you?! = )


  2. They are after insects in the wood (if your door is made of wood) or insects that are caught in the wire mesh.
