Question:

Why do i choke when i blow bubbles underwater?

ok, ive looked around a lot and ive seen the same thing. something how blowing bubbles out of your nose underwater stops water flow which can drain into your mouth/throat and make you swallow/gag water. for some reason, that works fine when i just go under in the 5 feet area. however, i only blow bubbles once and that is right when i enter the water. even then, water still may seep in if i do anything but go under and come back up (meaning, if i flip or do anything, it goes in). when i just jump into the water off of a diving board, water immediately gets in. i dont even have time to blow. so to solve that, i start blowing right as the water reaches my neck so that im blowing before im under. no good that way either. can anyone help me? i think there might be something wrong with my nasal tubing or something

  1. plugging your nose without anything is kinda instinctive. There is something in the back of you throat that you kinda lift and it prevents air or anything else from coming in through your nose. For some people its something you need to practice for others they just get it right away. Its really hard to explain how to do it.

  2. If a lot of water makes you choke and you are concerned I would go see a doctor. But if you go in the water consider using a nose plug.

  3. well make sure you are exhaling when you reach the water.  when you are like flipping just make sure you blow bubbles when you are upside down.  if it doesn't work you could try a nose plug
