Question:

Why do i feel the metal ring for a brace?

I had braces put on 2 days ago with the wire joined and the metal rings around the back teeth but now it hurts a lot and is very painful. When i try and eat soft food such as a fried burger because i had MacDonald's yesterday or a soft chip from MacDonald's, it really hurts when i bite it. It feels like my teeth are just going to come out the gum because the wire is really tight. When i chewed the chip, it felt like i was biting the metal ring as well. I have asked many friends online if that happens to them when they ate on the first few days and they said it felt normal but for me when i bite together or eat something, it really hurts my bottom teeth where the metal ring is. Also, my 2 bottom teeth and the front are really sensitive, i suppose this is due to the pressure from the wire? Many answers will be glad to hear. Thanks.

On the right hand side of my mouth, when i close together my teeth, i dont feel like metal ring but on the left side of my mouth, i feel the metal ring or something when i close my teeth or even eat. How can this be fixed?

  1. It can't be fixed but you just have to get used to them. that's what holds your wire in it just takes time to get used to them then you'll be fine.

  2. Man, I hated that when I had braces. It takes a while to get accustomed to the feeling of metal in your mouth. My whole bottom row felt so sensitive with all the tension from the wires =/  and I remember the metal rings in the back felt like they were clawing at my cheeks. Agony when I actually tried to eat.

You can ask your dentist for some dental wax to put on the parts that hurt until it gets better. You take it out when you eat and put a new bit back in place when you're done. Works well to ease the friction. As for the pain, not a great deal to change it..it comes with the process. Maybe pop an Advil?

Hope that helps and that you feel better soon!
