Why do i get negative points on yahoo?

You get points for doing certain things, but you Spend points doing others (like asking questions). Think of it as money and the points as curency

Think of answer yahoo and other similar things as a merit system or debit system.  You earn points by doing things and spend points.  It cost 5 points for asking questions, and you get 2 points for answering.  If you click on your answer profile, it would give you levels and how to earn and spend points.  

The people who have higher levels tend to be online constantly and earning points.  The more you contribute, the higher the rating you can earn.
