I was just about to take a shower five minutes ago, but when I reached for the tap, I felt like my heart was beating right through my chest and like skipping a beat or something like that. It felt really wierd, and I felt this flushing feeling through my whole body. I ignored it cause sometimes I get these, but then it happened again and I felt like my heart was going too fast this time. I got really dizzy and thought I was having a heart attack. I've never had it this bad or last this long. It stopped now but I'm really scared.

I'm only 14 and my hands are still tremoring right now, should I be worried?

  1. You may have Atrial Flutter, or some other similar problem.  Almost all of them are not much to worry about AS LONG AS YOU ARE TREATED BY A DOCTOR. They will probably put you on a monitor to determine the problem, and may put you on meds to prevent your heart from going too fast, or maybe to reduce the likelihood of a clot, but after that, your risk should be negligible.

I've found that it helps to identify if it is really happening by sitting down, and taking your pulse to see if anything unusual is happening.

  2. You have a palpitation and its nothing to worry about.

If you were going to have a heart attack it wouldn't stop and let you think first, you would already know about it or probably be dead.

Palpitations are commonly caused by anxiety and i think it is common in teens. Just don't let it worry you and it will be alright.

Notice: If you are short of breath all the time and overweight and breathless while lying down i would recommend buying a blood pressure monitor and then calling a doctor if it looks ugly.  If you are only 14 i say chill out you are probably having mild anxiety attacks and if they persist you can get chill pills from a doctor.

  3. In absence of EKG, and physical examination it is difficult to tell why is the nature of heart disease (if any).

The best way to help is that you consult your doctor.
