  1. Basically you can't do much about it. Your mouth will learn to talk normally. I know how you feel though. I went through the same thing!

  2. The reason Retainers make you sound like you have a lisp is because your tongue cannot touch the top of your mouth, so it is forced to go outside the mouth making you sound like you have a lisp.

Aren't you only supposed to wear it at night anyway?

  3. you cant help it...your only supposed to wear it at  night anyways!

  4. Don't worry, you'll get used to it. You only just had your braces off. Same thing happened to me too, it was almost weirder having this foreign hunk of plastic and wire in my mouth than the braces! It took me like a week to speak normally with them in. Just practice talking with your retainer in. For me, it was mostly my tongue didn't know what to do! LOL It gets better, don't worry. Good luck.

ETA: I had to wear my retainer 24 hours/day for the first year of my braces out, then only at night. It really helped my teeth not to move back, which has happened to almost everyone I know who didn't follow what their ortho said. So follow your ortho's suggestions! It's worth it, I get compliments on my teeth all the time, even years later.

And congrats on getting your braces out! =D

  5. You will until you get used to it, then you only wear it when you sleep so thats not a problem. And then you only have to wear it once every other week or never..

  6. you will have a lisp until you learn to talk with it. it will take a while .

  7. you get it when you talk because your retainer interferes the way you used to talk before. Well its okay because you will get used to it and later you will talk normal again.
