  1. I live in Texas.  Some years we are overrun with them.  Generally it's because we had a mild winter.

Last winter, we had several freezes and some snow.  Therefore, we don't have many this year.  Last year we had zillions upon zillions of crickets and other tiny critters.

I'm guessing the same goes for the area you live in.  Mild winter = lots of crickets, lizards and other crawling critters.

My advice is to pray for a big flock of birds to eat them.  Spraying helps, but the birds do the best job of all.

  2. And they sure can be annoying when they get into your house or garage and chirp all night. If this is the case, go green, to get rid of crickets, mix some molasses and vanilla extract in water. Put this in a shallow dish. Crickets are lured to this and they drown in it. Sticky traps, like those used to catch mice are also helpful. The sticky trap will also catch spiders! /X( *-* )X\  Be sure to place both of these where pets won't get into them. Although there's no chemicals in the liquid to harm your pets.
