okay..ever since i can remember i have these episodes where I'm dreaming and i want to wake up but i cant.at first it just seems like a normal dream then when i try to wake up i cant move, talk,i even try to scream and it doesn't do anything.it even feels like I'm losing air so i cant breath.its like the more i try to do something the quicker i lose air.

and when i think i wake up I'm only dreaming that ive woken up. i figured out the ONLY way for me to fully wake up is for me to count to 3 slowly and when i get to 3 i have to force myself to wake up.this has been happening for a while and it scares me.i don't know why i have these episodes.i try to look it up but i can never find anything on it.am i the only one who has these kinds or is there somebody out there who also has them.

  1. i'm a psychology major and have ben doing dream interpretations for a while as a hobby.  i would call this kind of dream a reoccurring dream.  these dreams occur because there is some kind of issue in your life that needs to be solved.

the feeling of not being able to breath represents some kind of stress in your life.  are you in an argument with a friend or someone close?  when you are counting to 3 makes me think that at this point you are fully aware you are in the dream.  at this point the dream turns into a "lucid dream".  lucid dreams happen when the dreamer is able to be fully away that they are in a dream situations.  when this happens the dreamer takes full control of what they are doing.  usually hard to achieve, but it seams like you have trained yourself to make your dreams lucid.  here is what i suggest.  no matter how scary this dream may seem, when you get to the counting part, don't count.  try to continue your dream.  it may give you some answers or at least hints about why these dreams are happening.  the good thing about lucid dreams is that usually once you become aware that it is only a dream, the dream becomes more realistic.  losing air is not realistic so, once the lucid dream comes, you should not be losing air anymore.  i know this might sounds confusing, but try it

i think everyone has these kind of dreams once in a while.  it is just a way of our unconscious trying to help us figure stuff out.  please remember that dream interpretation is not an exact science, so take my advice with a grain of salt

  2. Check into sleep disorders, possibly night terrors. They may not have the exact same example or the problem but maybe something close that you can relate it to so you may get ideas on how to change it.

  3. It's just sleep paralysis.
